Depends in what context though, You have awesome routines like tenkai pennies that uses a kind of modified back palm which is very suitable for Cocktail situations

What do you think?

I have always (with notable exceptions) to only learn a slight that I had to learn for a specific routine.

I guess I have not found a routine where it is needed because I never learned it.

Wow, Jim! Those are awesome tips!

While we're on the subject of the Back Palm with coins, let me add that one of my favorite uses for it is "The Pulse Trick" from Modern Coin Magic. It provides some good built-in misdirection and cover for the back palm itself. As such, I encourage anyone learning this sleight to check that trick out. You'll be able to do this trick long before you'll be able to singly reproduce a stack of back palmed coins in a Miser's Dream routine. :-) Plus, in my experience, it really amazes my spectators.

Hey, Kenn-  Welcome!

No need for trepidation- fine post.  The coins you found sound great- the aluminum cuts the weight way down which helps a lot, plus aluminum is not so slippery and sharp edging is a plus.

Some purists frown on it, but I use a bit of violin rosin on the coins when I am practicing a difficult sleight, just to give me a little "purchase".  It seems to make the early going less stressful.

My advice, Snowman, is just be patient and keep at it- it will  be there one day.  In the meantime, one thing I do to make the drops less annoying is drill a  small hole near the edge of my practice coin and attach a small piece of fishing line or dental floss so I can tie the coin to my wrist.  Saves me  lot of time and energy.

As Kenn said, I hope this helps someone...

You are correct. It can be hard though to find the right size and technique for your indivdual hand/fingers.
I use a back thumb clip - it is very difficult to do, but very effective when done correctly.

Ok, with some trepidation, my first post... Here goes....

I find the back palm with coins to be a bit oxymoronic. What I mean is that, contrary to what you might otherwise think, it is often the case that the smaller your hands, the easier larger coins become to back palm. Even bigger than half dollars. I visited a local party store and found some fake coins that are a little bigger (but thinner) than a half, but not quite as big as a silver dollar. These work very well for me, and I have long, skinny fingers. Also, they are made of aluminum, and have sharply milled edges, which help a lot, particularly with the back palm.

(I edited this post b/c because coins that are larger in diameter but thinner are usually better for this sleight.)

I hope that helps somebody. :-)

I was about to post the same question.
I can't seem to get into the back palm without the coin flying off into the sunset.

Thanx Bizzaro. I'll check out the Goshman pinch.

Goshman pinch (tenkai pennies). Works better than a backpalm for me.

I'm just starting out with coin magic and I can't seem to pull off a back palm. I'm using half dollars, and I don't have particularly large hands, but it just seems like the coin is too small. Am I just doing it wrong or is a half dollar really too small?

Also, does anyone know of a good online guide on developing a solid back palm? All advice appreciated!
